Let one of our highly trained insurance specialist inspect your home for possible hail or wind damage.
There are 4 stages of a storm damage claim process which is A.) There has not been a storm claim filed, B.) There has been a partial payment made (meaning your insurance company only going to cover some of the damages), C.) Your claim has been denied, or D.) You have been fully compensated for the damages from the storm. You may have noticed signs from roofing companies popping up throughout your neighborhood.
The fact that roofing and restoration companies have arrived can be a good indication that your area is involved. Relax! Your home is probably not in imminent danger. While significant sized hail can damage the shingles, siding, and gutters; tear window screens and dent many roof vents, the situation is typically not an immediate threat and your roof will probably not leak. We at K and M will give some suggestions on how to proceed with the evaluation of the possible storm damages to your home with a company who will be here for many years.
Usually there is a two-year statute of limitations on reporting this damage to the insurance company. If you think you may have damage, the first step would be to contact your insurance company and request that they send an adjuster to evaluate the condition of your possible storm damage. Based on availability, we will be able to meet an adjuster at your home to point out damage that were noticed and documented from our previous inspection. By giving our claim specialist permission to handle your claim, this will enable us to work directly with the adjuster to make sure their adjustment is correct including the number of squares of roofing materials, local code requirements, etc.
After the adjuster makes this evaluation, he or she will prepare an adjustment report, usually using a program such as Xactimate, listing the allowance for the various aspects of the damage. Often, a portion of the allowance will be held back until the work is completed. This will show up as depreciation, but this amount is usually released when the work is completed.
We at K and M Construction of MN hope this information has been helpful. If you have any additional questions, or we can be of any assistance, please contact us for your free assessment.
